The GAFF, through Creative Communities Midwest, has hosted TRANSITIONS since 2020 as a platform for artists and communities to explore different ways of creating work.
TRANSITIONS 6 explores how Artists’ Collectives survive and function in contemporary times.
Guest Artists include:
Assemble won the 2015 Turner Prize. They are a London-based collective who design and make buildings, artworks, gardens, playgrounds, furniture, exhibitions and events in tandem with the communities who use and inhabit them. They develop business plans, project strategies and create organisations. They design, construct and manage workspaces. They curate, teach, write books, publish research and lecture publicly.
Parsley Collective are five Limerick-based dance artists. Movement research is at the heart of what they do. As part of this research they are refining an approach to improvisation and performance called z(ero)ing. They are currently Artists-in-Residence in Dance Limerick.
Concept Null is a Limerick-based, grassroots collective dedicated to establishing new-media as a recognised art form in Ireland. They aim to nurture a thriving community of artists, technologists and enthusiasts with capacity to produce thoughtful and engaging new media and digital art in an ecosystem from which all can benefit.
Eyebright Collective is a Limerick-based, multi-disciplinary group of artists who formed as a reaction to their collective concern around climate crisis, our relationship to screens and social media and the role of independent art in the modern world.
The Guesthouse is a visual arts initiative that emerged out of the Capital of Culture in 2005 and established the first international artists' residency space in Cork. This domestic setting is a meeting point for creative practitioners to show work, dialogue, experiment and collaborate.

The "ish" in the workshop titles points towards my values changing; I use dance to understand the world and myself better. So what I offer has basis and foundation in Hip-Hop and Contemporary, but I use those styles to calm the body, re-integrate, connect with others and the music, and offer a space where you can relax and hang out with yourself (and your friends - bring your friends!)
In these classes, there will be a warm up, there will be sweating, challenge, sometimes choreography and hopefully laughter and fun and joy. There will also be chats, tea, reflection, idling, gentle movement and re-connecting.
Built into the 2hrs there will be time to slow down and re-centre from the outside world before starting to move together. And at the end of class there will be time to wind down after dancing, chat, have a snack, drink some tea... or not talk and take some time for yourself!
I invite you to join me in movement, play, and re-integration. I hope I can offer you a place where there is no goal if you don't want there to be; only process.
This Sunday 13:00 - 15:00 in Galway Dance, Terryland House. Movers and artists of any discipline welcome, to move together and then connect over tea/coffee and chats.
